Where is the reference number on the bill?
Look at the header block of the printed bill, above the consumer name and address. The reference number is the long all-digit field, normally the first one on the row, and it is the only 14-digit number on the page.
- It is 14 digits. If yours is shorter, you are probably looking at the customer ID or the meter number.
- It contains digits only — no letters, no slashes.
- It does not change from month to month, so once you have it, keep it. The bill number does change; the reference number does not.
